Position: Rails Engineer

Reports to: Senior Development Team Lead

 

Grace Hill provides a SaaS platform for property management companies to manage training and compliance for their employees. We help the multifamily housing industry keep up with regulatory requirements through online courses provided by a modern LMS platform. Grace Hill is looking to hire an intermediate to senior level Rails engineer for full time work via a direct hire or contract-to-hire. This position is for a solid developer with strong development and problem-solving skills plus real-world experience with Ruby on Rails. This position is focused on back end development; however, knowledge and experience with frontend development and other languages is a plus. The position will work with a small, highly motivated team in an office in downtown Greenville, SC with the option to work remotely part of the time. A developer who has experience using AWS (Amazon Web Services) is a big plus. Experience writing automated tests with RSpec is preferred. The developer will assist with new features and maintenance to an existing platform.

 

Responsibilities of Rails Engineer:

  • Maintain a production Ruby on Rails application
  • Develop new features following product and technical specifications
  • Work in an issue tracker to analyze, discuss, and document issues
  • Investigate, document, and repair application defects
  • Deploy new software releases and maintain DevOps
  • Collaborate with other developers, QA, and product stakeholders
  • Write automated tests in RSpec
  • Perform code review for other developers’ changes
  • Follow a lean agile process using Kanban
  • Recommend improvements to application architecture

 

Requirements of Rails Engineer:

  • Solid backend web development experience
  • Intermediate to advanced Ruby on Rails skills
  • Web technologies such as JavaScript 6/7, CSS3 and HTML 5
  • Experience with MySQL database or other SQL-based database
  • Experience working in an AWS – Amazon Web Services environment experience desired
  • Ability to work with multiple languages is desired
  • Light domestic travel may be required
  • Attention to detail and persistence
  • Ability to keep track of different projects
  • Good communication skills
  • Self-directed
